Week 6 Assignments: New Vocab - Sentences - New Syntax - Recitation - Dictation - Review Vocab - Review Syntax - Composition - Listening - Audio Gallery!

Translation Exercises

This week, you are going to learn the PAST TENSE for verbs. This involves leaving a new set of endings for active and for middle/passive - and you also have to learn about something called "augment" which change sthe stem of the verb.

Start early! You have a two new sets of verb endings to learn, plus changes to the verb stems, and you need to understand all of this before you take this week's quizzes.

Practice Quizzes. There are separate practice quizzes for the Lesson 10 Syntax (past tense active) and for the Lesson 11 Syntax (past tense middle/passive) so that you can practice the lessons separately if you want, without any impact on the gradebook.

Extra credit. There is also an extra credit option where you can post some translations of the sentences at the Discussion Board. This option is available through Wednesday at midnight.

Lesson 10. First, make sure you understand the new content in Croy by reading through Croy and then consulting the webpages here which provide supplemental information.

There is an Augment Chart to help you understand how to form the past tense of the verbs that you know, and there is a page of Present to Past Transformation Sentences to help you practice the forms. After you review these materials, you should be ready to do Practice Sentences, with help from the Commentary on Lesson 10 Sentences. Because the sentences are becoming more complex, there is also a segmented version of the sentences to help you in your reading. You are not required to write out translations for all of the sentences, but you must be sure you understand the meaning of each sentence. If you have been having trouble with the Syntax Quizzes, I would strongly recommend that you translate all of the sentences.

Lesson 11. First, make sure you understand the new content in Croy by reading through Croy and then consulting the webpages here which provide supplemental information.

After you review these materials, you should be ready to do Practice Sentences, with help from the Commentary on Lesson 11 Sentences. Because the sentences are becoming more complex, there is also a segmented version of the sentences to help you in your reading.
