Case: Accusative with Definite Article

This is a drill to help you practice the accusative case of first and second declension nouns WITH THE DEFINITE ARTICLE. First, make sure you have studied the first declension noun endings and the second declension noun endings and that you have reviewed the forms of the definite article. Then you will be ready to try this exercise.

First, practice with feminine singular:

βλέπουσι    __________ ἡ γῆ βλέπουσι τὴν γῆν They see the land.
βλέπει    __________ ἡ ψυχή

βλέπει τὴν ψυχήν

She sees the soul.
βλέπεις    __________ ἡ θάλασσα βλέπεις τὴν θάλασσαν You see the sea.

Then try feminine plural:

βλέπεις   __________ αἱ βασιλείαι
βλέπεις τὰς βασιλείας You see the kingdoms.
βλέπομεν   __________ αἱ ἐκκλησίαι
βλέπομεν τὰς ἐκκλησίας We see the assemblies.
βλέπει   __________ αἱ ἀδελφαί βλέπει τὰς ἀδελφάς He sees the sisters.

Then try both feminine forms (pay attention to whether the prompt is singular or plural!):

βλέπουσι    __________ ἡ γῆ βλέπουσι τὴν γῆν They see the land.
βλέπεις   __________ αἱ βασιλείαι
βλέπεις τὰς βασιλείας You see the kingdoms.
βλέπει    __________ ἡ ψυχή

βλέπει τὴν ψυχήν

She sees the soul.
βλέπομεν   __________ αἱ ἐκκλησίαι
βλέπομεν τὰς ἐκκλησίας We see the assemblies.
βλέπει   __________ αἱ ἀδελφαί βλέπει τὰς ἀδελφάς He sees the sisters.
βλέπεις    __________ ἡ θάλασσα βλέπεις τὴν θάλασσαν You see the sea.

Then try masculine singular:

βλέπουσι    __________ ὁ ἄγγελος βλέπουσι τὸν ἄγγελον They see the messenger.
βλέπει    __________ ὁ δοῦλος

βλέπει τὸν δοῦλον

She sees the slave.
βλέπετε   __________ ὁ ὄχλος βλέπετε τὸν ὄχλον You see the crowd.

Then try masculine plural:

βλέπεις   __________ οἱ οἶκοι
βλέπεις τοὺς οἴκους You see the houses.
βλέπω   __________ οἱ ἄνθρωποι βλέπω τοὺς ἀνθρώπους I see the people.
βλέπομεν   __________ οἱ λίθοι
βλέπομεν τοὺς λίθους We see the stones.

Then try both masculine forms (pay attention to whether the prompt is singular or plural!):

βλέπεις   __________ οἱ οἶκοι
βλέπεις τοὺς οἴκους You see the houses.
βλέπουσι    __________ ὁ ἄγγελος βλέπουσι τὸν ἄγγελον They see the messenger.

βλέπω   __________ οἱ ἄνθρωποι βλέπω τοὺς ἀνθρώπους I see the people.
βλέπομεν   __________ οἱ λίθοι
βλέπομεν τοὺς λίθους We see the stones.
βλέπετε   __________ ὁ ὄχλος βλέπετε τὸν ὄχλον You see the crowd.

Then do neuter singular and plural (neuters are easy, because nominative and accusative are the same!):

βλέπουσι    __________ τὸ δῶρον βλέπουσι τὸ δῶρον They see the gift.
βλέπουσι   __________ τὸ ἔργον βλέπουσι τὸ ἔργον They see the work.
βλέπεις   __________ τὰ τέκνα
βλέπεις τὰ τέκνα You see the children.
βλέπω   __________ τὰ πλοῖα βλέπω τὰ πλοῖα I see the boats.

Then try them all together! There is a printable form of this chart which you can use for practice in both reading and writing.
