28.201 The Present System of δίδωμι

Study Croy section 201 carefully. As Croy notes, all the present system forms of this verb start with the reduplicated syllable διδ- . This is your perfect clue as to when you are dealing with a present tense form of this verb (present tense indicative, present infinitive, present participle, present subjunctive or present imperative).

There is a special set of endings for the present tense indicative which you need to learn:

δίδωμι δίδομεν
δίδως δίδοτε
δίδωσι διδόασι

The endings used for the present middle/passive are just what you would expect:

present middle/passive: δίδομαι, δίδοσαι, δίδοται, διδόμεθα, δίδοσθε, δίδονται

In the imperfect past tense, there is sometimes a lengthening of the vowel and variation in the endings you would expect, but the combination of the augment with the present stem will make it immediately obvious that you are dealing with an imperfect past tense form:

imperfect active: ἐδίδουν, ἐδίδους, ἐδίδου, ἐδίδομεν, ἐδίδοτε, ἐδίδοσαν

imperfect middle/passive: ἐδιδόμην, ἐδίδοσο, ἐδίδοτο, ἐδιδόμεθα, ἐδίδοσθε, ἐδίδοντο

Croy provides you with the present subjunctive forms - and you can recognize those easily by the presence of an omega with a circumflex over it (there are omegas in the present active indicative, but no circumflex accents).

Croy also provides you with the present imperative, present participle and present infinitive forms. All of these are easy to recognize by the distinctive διδ- stem which is the sign of the present system for this verb.
