8.50 Syntax of the Demonstratives

As always, the best way to practice new forms is by doing singular-plural transformations. Here is how to use these practice sentences:

• Listen to the audio
• Print out the page and cover up the English column: are you able to translate the Greek sentences into English?
• Cover up the Greek columns: are you able to translate the English into Greek?
• Now cover up the plural column: are you able to turn the singulars into plurals?
• Now cover up the singular column: are you able to turn the plurals into singulars?

"Near" Demonstrative

This slave believes / These slaves believe.	οὗτος ὁ δοῦλος πιστεύει	οὗτοι οἱ δοῦλοι πιστεύουσιν
This assembly is faithful / These assemblies are faithful.	αὕτη ἡ ἐκκλησία πιστή	αὗται αἱ ἐκκλησίαι πισταί
I want to see the house of this person / of these people.	θέλω βλέπειν τὸν οἶκον τοῦ ἀνθρώπου τούτου	θέλω βλέπειν τὸν οἶκον τῶν ἀνθρώπων τούτων
The master of this slave / of these slaves is wicked.	πονηρὸς ὁ κύριος τούτου τοῦ δούλου.	πονηρὸς ὁ κύριος τούτων τῶν δούλων.

"Far" Demonstrative
