Aesop's Fables (Chambry edition)

Λαγωὸς καὶ ἀλώπηξ.
Ὁ λαγωὸς τῇ ἀλώπεκι· " Ὄντως πολλὰ κερδαίνεις ἢ ἔχεις
ὅτι ὄνομά σοι κερδώ ἐστιν;" Ἡ δὲ ἀλώπηξ· "Εἰ ἀπιστεῖς, ἔφη, δεῦρο· ἐγὼ ἑστιῶ
σε." Ὁ δὲ ἠκολούθει καὶ ἦν ἔνδον οὐδὲν ἢ ὁ λαγωὸς δεῖπνος τῇ ἀλώπεκι. Ὁ
δὲ λαγωὸς ἔφη· "Σὺν κακῷ μέν, ἀλλ' ἔμαθόν σου τὸ ὄνομα πόθεν ἐστί, οὐκ ἀπὸ
τοῦ κερδαίνειν, ἀλλ' ἀπὸ τοῦ δολοῦν."
Ὅτι τοῖς περιέργοις πολλάκις μέγιστον κακὸν συνέβη κακῶς τῇ περιεργειᾳ χρωμένοις.
Chambry published a multivolume edition of the fables for the Belles Lettres
series in 1925/6 (Paris). He later revised this into a single volume, omitting
hundreds of the fable variants. In addition, the numeration between these two
volumes is not consistent. The texts here are taken from the 1925/6 edition, but
the numeration follows the stanard single volume edition. |
