Ἐκάθευδε νύκτωρ ἐργάτης ὑπ'
ἀγνοίης
φρέατος ἐγγύς. τῆς Τύχης δ' ἐπιστάσης
ἔδοξ' ἀκούειν " οὗτος, οὐκ ἐγερθήσῃ;
μὴ σοῦ πεσόντος αἰτίη παρ' ἀνθρώποις
ἐγὼ λέγωμαι καὶ κακὴν λάβω φήμην.
ἐμοὶ γὰρ ἐγκαλοῦσι πάντα συλλήβδην,
ὅς' ἂν παρ' αὑτοῦ δυστυχῇ τις ἤ πίπτῃ."
