Aesop's Fables, translated by Laura Gibbs (2002)
427. THE FLIES AND THE HONEY
Perry 80 (Chambry
239 *)
When the honey had been spilled in the pantry, some flies flew up and
landed on it. Their feet got stuck and they could not fly away. As they
were drowning in the honey, the flies remarked, 'Oh, woe is us! For the
sake of a brief banquet, we are going to die!'
The story shows that greediness often leads to serious trouble.
