The Prince and the Poacher: 3

Reading time:(2 minutes)

Robin Hood to the rescue, of course... and when Dickon is free, Robin reveals his "true" identity to him. The legend connecting Robin Hood with Lord Robert, Earl of Huntingdon, is not found in the early ballad tradition - it is only much later that historians struggle to provide Robin with a "noble" pedigree.

Questions. Make sure you can answer these questions about what you just read:

  • why did Robin and Little John rescue Dickon?
  • why was Dickon surprised by Robin Hood's behavior?
  • where do the three men go after they escape from the town?
